Yep they are ears. For some time I never separated them from his hair.
I came to the same conclusion.
I'm just at the point I'm looking back at the ears and wondering why the heck I added them in the first place.
It's such an awkward feeling because I still really like them. So mixed feelings agh.
If he didn't have the ears he'd probably look really boring though.
I wouldn't say he looks boring without the ears, just more plain. Which appeals to my personal taste, at least.

Yaz's ears have never really been the same, so they're not so much set in stone.
Although I do know they shouldn't look this big or this realistic.
Also Yaz doesn't have the ears for the first half of the story..
He looks more serious in this drawing than your other deviations.
